Event Schedule

11 a.m. Fairgrounds Open

                        Raft assembly begins. Spectators welcome

11 a.m. Start Community Paddles (5 Km and 1 Km)

1:30 pm.         Start Canoe, Kayak and Paddleboard Races. Participants in the Community Paddle are welcome to participate in these races.

2:30 pm. Start Raft Races

How to Register:

We ask that you register online at www.almontehospitalfoundation.com ahead of the event  by Monday, Aug. 7.  After that, you can register at the AGH-FVM Foundation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day or on event day. Come 30 minutes early.

Registration fees:

The Community Paddles (5K and 1K):  Registrants are encouraged to raise money through collecting as many pledges as possible. A suggested goal is $75, but we encourage registrants to raise more. There are prizes and incentives for fundraising.

Collect $75 – receive a Paddle for AGH limited edition T-shirt

Collect $100 – receive a Paddle for AGH limited edition Ball Cap

Collect $150 – receive a $10 gift certificate for Lee Valley Tools

Collect $200 – receive a $20 gift certificate for Lee Valley Tools

Collect $300 – receive a $50 gift certificate for Lee Valley Tools

All pledgers (donors) will receive a charitable tax receipt for $20 or more.

Canoe, Kayak and Paddle Board Races

A donation to the Almonte General Hospital. Contributions can be raised for the completion of the paddle. The suggested goal is $75, but we encourage registrants to raise more. There are prizes and incentives for fundraising.

Fundraising Incentives (All pledge incentives are cumulative and provided to an individual for the amount of pledges collected)

Event Descriptions

Paddle for AGH is a family celebration, which combines paddling the Mississippi River in Almonte and raising funds for the Almonte General Hospital.  There are six different paddling events to choose from including:

•          community paddles (5K and 1 K) open to canoes, kayaks and paddle boards,

•          fun canoe sprint races,

•          fun kayak sprint races,

•          fun paddle board sprint races and the

•          really fun raft races (click on for more information)

The object of the day’s events and activities is to celebrate, have fun and raise funds in support of new Diagnostic Imaging equipment at the Almonte General Hospital.  All events are designed for family-fun! 

5K  Community Paddle

The objective of this event is participation. It is not a timed event. Participants will start at the Fairgrounds boat launch and paddle 2.5 K up to the marker at the beginning of the beautiful Appleton Wetland. They will then retrace their route to return to the finish line at the boat launch. 

 1K Community Paddle

This event is for those with young children or those who may not be able to complete a 5K paddle. Participants leave from the boat launch, paddle .5K around a marker and return to the boat launch.

 Canoe, Kayak and Paddle Board Sprint Races

300 meter 2 Person Canoe Sprint Race

The start line for this 300 meter race will be located at the municipal beach. Racers will paddle across the river negotiate a turn around a buoy and return to the finish line on the beach.

300 meter 1 Person Kayak Race

The start line for this 300 meter race will be located at the municipal beach. Racers will paddle across the river negotiate a turn around a buoy and return to the finish line on the beach.  

300 m Standing Paddle Board Race

This race will start at the municipal beach. Participants will paddle 150 meters across the river around a buoy and back.

Courses are subject to change.

Prizes, prizes and more prizes!!

Prizes including T-shirts, hats, gift certificates to Wilderness Tours and medals will be awarded for most funds raised, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes.

 Instructions to Participants

Parking

Arrive in plenty of time before the start of your event. Give yourself additional time if you need to register the day of the event. Enter the fairgrounds via the Agricultural Building entrance. There will be parking attendants on site to assist you.  As this is a fundraiser for our hospital, spectators are asked to make a donation.

 Check-In Upon Arrival

Park your vehicle and proceed immediately to the check-in desk. The check-in desk will have a sign.

Marshaling

Community Paddlers

You will be instructed to put your canoe, kayak or paddleboard near the boat launch. Everyone must have their life jackets/PFDs on in the marshaling area.

Racers

The Chief Marshaling Officer will indicate where you are to move your craft in the marshaling area near the beach. Everyone must have their life jackets/PFDs on in the marshaling area.

All craft must be in place in the marshaling area by 1:15 pm. Races begin at 1:30 pm.

The Race

The starter will tell you to move your craft forward to the starting line.

The race starts when the starter blows a whistle.

The participant(s) pulls the raft off the beach and into the water.

The participant(s) must be on the raft when they can no longer touch the bottom of the river.

The participant(s) propels the craft forward, makes a turn around a buoy and returns to the beach, pulls the craft out of the water, across the sand and over the finish line.
